It's been a sticky, strange week — 98° with rain falling out of a sunny sky Wednesday, AmericanaFest badges all over downtown since Sunday, and now the first wave of Eagles fans checking into hotels ahead of Sunday's game at Nissan Stadium.

An intense and historic heat wave will bring dangerously hot conditions with a high temperature reaching 99°F to 100°F. High humidity levels will drive the "Feels Like" heat index up to 105°F to 106°F, so anyone planning to attend any of the city's outdoor musical events should practice extreme caution, drink plenty of water.

By this weekend, downtown's going to be doing two things at once. Plan accordingly.

Tennessee is preparing for an execution that could make state history.

Christa Pike, the only woman on Tennessee’s death row, is scheduled to be executed Sept. 30 for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. If it happens, she could become the first woman executed by Tennessee in more than 200 years.

Her attorneys are still fighting for clemency — while the victim’s mother has waited more than 30 years for the sentence to be carried out.
